This work that focuses on Heidegger and Derrida?s deconstructive reading directed to Western philosophy or metaphysics, is composed of four parts. Even though the concept of deconstruction belongs to Derrida, it has a historical context that was constituted by Nietzsche, Husserl and Heidegger?s philosophies. Consequently the first two parts of this work deal with the historical background of the concept of deconstruction and the latter two with Heidegger and Derrida?s deconstruction. In a general sense, deconstruction refers to a radical reading technique for the texts of Western metaphysics. As prescribed in both Heidegger and Derrida?s philosophies, the focal point of deconstructive reading is to criticize the idea of universal truth and meaning of Western philosophical tradition. According to Heidegger and Derrida, Western philosophical conception of Being has been determined as presence as a result of the conception of mathematical and calculable time. In this way, the truth and meaning of Being are fixed and reduced to human reason. For Heidegger this situation means to reduce Being to a being, and for Derrida to reduce the systematical play of signifiers to the presence. In contrast with the metaphysical idea of Being and truth, deconstruction could be seen as a radical critique of these metaphysical conceptions of universal truth and meaning. Criticizing the idea of fixed and permanent meaning, deconstruction refers to a critical strategy of reading that disapproves of the idea of fixed and permanent Being and meaning. Using the strategy of deconstruction, the aporias that are included in the metaphysical claims about these universal, fixed and permanent truths are revealed. In this way, the possibility of infinite meanings comes out.
