Özet

Internet has rapidly become prevalent due to the facilities it possess, and the areas in which it is used have broadened over the last years. However, this situation causes some psychological problem, named as 'internet addiction', especially among adolescents. To determine the extensity of internet addcition and to identify the parameters associated with it has become essential to contend with this addiction. To this aim, the relationship between internet addiction, impulsivity and obsessive compulsive was investigated through this work. This study was applied to randomly chosen 218 students in 17-30 age from Uskudar University. The students were viewed using Personal Data Form created by the counsellor and the researcher, Internet Addiction Scale (IAS) developed by Nichols ve Nicki (2004), the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11), and The Maudsley Obsessive Compulsive Inventory (MOCI).According to the results, %7.79 of them showed internet addiction, and %5.96 met the criteria for risky internet use. It was found that IAS score is significantly associated with BIS-11 subscale score of Motor Key, and there is a positive correlation between IAS score and MOCI subscales scores and total scores. On the other hand, it was observed that there are no meaningful relationships between internet addiction and the gender, the number of siblings, smoking, and the use of alcohol and substance.
