During this study, H.264 standard is analyzed, and forward error correction capabilities are tested by applying Raptor codes on H.264 videos.A program, that converts H.264 videos to RTP packets is implemented. The RTP packets are reordered and written to an output file to provide the GOP by GOP order of the frames.RTP payload format is defined and coded according to the document named ?RTP Payload Format for H.264 Video? (RFC3984bis) which is published by Audio/Video Transport Working Group.Raptor encoder program is customized to work with RTP packet based H.264 video file as the input file. Raptor encoder handles each GOP in this file as a source block and adds Raptor codes to the file. VCEG-N37 software is used on Raptor coded file to simulate transmission errors/packet losses on wireless networks. Different error patterns are simulated. Packet losses are recovered by decoding the file with the Raptor decoder. The results of the decoding process are evaluated according to the change of the percentage of lost packets and the percentage of the extra information that should be added to re-generate the original video file. Also in this study, the advantages of H.264 standard over the other compression standards are presented and the key features of H.264 standard are explained. Forward error correction codes are examined and the comparison between Raptor and Reed Solomon codes is presented. All applications are written in C programming language.
