This thesis consists of an introduction, two parts, and a conclusion. The introduction contains Muḥammad ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī's life, his scientific personality, his works, his tafsīr understanding and the general characteristics of his commentary on Qur'ān named Jāmiʿ al-bayān ʿan taʾwīl āy al-Qurʾān. The first part includes his approaches to the aḥkām verses and the views of the author under the headings of these subjects: worship, family law, treatment, crime-punishment topics of war, halals and harams. In addition, the opinions of the author are compared with the views of the Madhhab Imams, and a table reflecting the result of this comparison and revealing the compliance rate is added at the end of the chapter. The second part includes the reasons for the preferences of the views that al-Ṭabarī accepted in the interpretation of the aḥkām verses.Al-Ṭabarī's tafsîr received a great attention from past to the present, is a distinguished work in terms of Tafsīr al-Dirāyah and Rivāyah. Al-Ṭabarī, who is the author of the book, also known by his works in tafsīr, fiqh, history, and hadīth. Al-Ṭabarī is also accepted as a founder of a Madhhab under his name. The way he interpreted the aḥkām verses and the criteria he observed is really important. It is seen that the author's approaches to the aḥkām verses as a mufassir rather than a faqih. Yet his approach and explanation methods in aḥkām verses do not differ from his explanation in other verses. As it is shown in the interpretation of other verses in the explanation of aḥkām verses, al-Ṭabarī presented his own preference after giving plenty of narratives from Prophet Muḥammad, companions of Prophet Muḥammad, and Tābiūn (followers of Ṣaḥāba). It is also observed that he has referred merely to İmâms of Madhhab (school of thoughts) and did not mention fiqh topics in the verses, instead he referred to his other books. On al-Ṭabarī's preferences, zāhir al-āyah, ʿumūm and muṭlaq, authentic narration (ḫabar) from Prophet Muḥammad, consensus of the ummah (ijma), integrity of Qur'ān and āyah, the utilization of Arabs were crucial factors. It can be said that the majority of the opinions of al-Ṭabarī in his tafsir, where he did not bring any sectarian thoughts while presenting his fiqh views in the commentary of Qur'ān, could be in favor of the Shāfiʿī Madhhab which he used to be part of, rather than Ḥanafī Madhhab. Keywords: Qur'ān, tafsīr, al-Ṭabari, aḥkām.

Anahtar Kelimeler: Kur'an, tefsir, Taberî, ahkâm.
