Generally located in the vicinity of a village center, village chambers are built by the well-off local families to meet travelers' needs for accommodation, food and drink. They did not only serve travelers but they were also used by the local people for socializing particularly during the times when technology was not so developed as it is today. Present in almost every village in Turkey, village chambers were also built in the majority of the villages in Yozgat. 17 village chambers located in the 25 villages in Yozgat, Osmanpaşa District were examined in the study. All the chambers examined are mainly made from mudbrick and in some of the chambers rubble stone is used before basement. The plan consists of a single room, a single room + a hallway, a single room + a hallway + a stable division for horses, 2 rooms+ a hallway, 2 rooms + a hallway + a stable division for horses. The most important elements of the chambers are furnace, closets, wood cabinets called yüklük, a sitting platform, and a place for ablution and pitchers. We come across decorative elements on ceiling roses, furnaces, closets as well as on plaster and wooden niches. This study was conducted due to the fact that the village chambers in Yozgat had not been examined before. These original works were purposefully selected so that the tradition of the village chambers, as one of the most important structures of our folk culture, could be transferred to next generations. One of the most significant structures of Turkish folk architecture, village chambers are not given due care and consideration today. The chambers we examined in this study have been almost ruined. Despite shedding light on our past with both their decorative and architectural elements, village chambers do not get the attention they actually deserve. We wish to see that these pieces of art which seem to be demolished are put under protection and given due care and consideration.
