Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate body image of pregnant women and sexual fuction of partners and affecting factors. Material and Method: The study was conducted with 254 pregnant women who had applied to an outpatient clinic for obstetric patients. The women's spouses were also included in the study. The research data was gathered using the Personal Information Form, Body Image Scale (BIS), Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Arizona Sexuality Experiences Scale-Male Form (ASEX). Descriptive statistical methods and parametrics tests were used to analyze the data. Results: The women's BIS mean score and FSFI mean scores were 147.41±14.88 and 17.82±11.81 points respectively. The ASEX mean score of the women's spouses was 15.81±6.57 points. The mean scores of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain subdomains of FSFI of pregnant women were found to be highest in the second trimester and lowest in the third trimester. The rates of sexual dysfunction of the women in the first, second and third trimester were 64.4%, 18.3% and 89.9% respectively. Sexual dysfunction was experienced by 57.8% of spouses of the women in the first trimester, 63.3% in the second trimester, and 92.6% of women in the third trimester. It was found that the women's sexual function and body image were more negative in the third trimester, and the score differences in trimesters were statistically significant (p=0.000). It was determined that the spouses of the women in the third trimester of pregnancy had sexual dysfunction more than spouses of women in the first and second trimesters, and the difference was statistically significant (p=0.000). There was a significant positive correlation between body image and sexual function of pregnant women (p=0.000). There was a significant negative correlation between body image and sexual function of spouses (p=0.000).Conclusions: As a result, it was determined that the body image of pregnant women differed depending on the trimester, and their body image was more negative in the third trimester. Furthermore, our study results showed that sexual dysfunction increased among the women and their spouses in the last trimester. Nevertheless, a positive body image affected the sexual function of the couples positively.Key words: Pregnancy, pregnant women, sexuality, body image, partner sexuality.
