Developing countries need to increase their production capacities by increasing their fixed capital investments for convergence with developed countries. For these investments, the biggest constraint in front of developing countries is foreign exchange. Especially after the Second World War, great increases in international tourism and diversification of tourism destinations came to fruition. Thus tourism has emerged as a new source of foreign exchange for developing countries. Developing countries had improved their production capacities and demonstrated a sustainable economic growth performance by increasing their fixed capital formation thanks to the foreign exchange that they had gained through tourism. There are many studies in the literature show that tourism has a great effect on economic growth. However, empirical studies, focus on to determine the factors affecting tourism demand, are limited. Determining the factors affecting tourism demand and applying the necessary policies in this direction may enable the developing countries to increase the tourism incomes which will attract more tourists and contribute to economic development. In this study, the factors affecting the international tourism demand for Turkey were tried to be determined by using the data of the countries that send the most tourists to Turkey. Because of the study, it has been determined that the increases in the income of the countries tourists sending and the improvements in the political stability index of these countries have positive effects on the number of tourists that they send to Turkey. Besides, the relative price levels of the two countries and the increases in the exchange rates have been found to negatively affect the number of tourists they have sent to Turkey as expected. Keywords: Economic Growth, Tourism, Tourism Demand, Panel Data, Political Stability Index, Foreign Exchange, CPI.
