In this study, water samples were taken from 5 different stations on the dates between June 2006- January2007, and some physical and biological properties of water were determined. In average the values for dissolved oxygen, temperature, secchi depth, conductivity and Nygaard's compound index were determined as 8.3 mg/?, 13.9 oC, 1.06 m, 1032 ?mhos cm-1, 6respectively.The compositions and abundance of the phytoplankton and zooplankton were investigated in terms of seasonal changes. In phytoplankton, a total of 48 taxa were identified belonging to 7 different divisions. While Chlorophyta was found to be dominating algae in summer, members of Cyanophyta dominated phytoplankton in end of autumn. Chlorophyta had more species numbers, whereas species belonging to other divisions (Cyanophyta, Bacillariophyta, Cryptophyta, Chrysophyta,Charophyta and Pyrrophyta) were low in numbers almost throughout the study. The lowest number of phytoplankton was found in winter and end of summer, while the abundance of phytoplankton showed an increase in autumn. Cyanophyta increased at the begining of autumn whilst the increase in Chlorophyta took place in summer. Lake water temperatures were found to be the major factor controlling seasonal change of phytoplankton in Hafik Lake.In zooplankton, a total of 12 taxa were identified belonging to 2 different phylums (Rotifera and Arthropoda). The number of zooplankton was more or less found same in other periods, while the abundance of zoooplankton showed an increase in middle of autumn. While Copepoda was found to be dominating zooplankton in summer, members of Rotifera dominated zooplankton in autumn. As for Cladocera were low in numbers almost throughout the study. Lake water temperature and abundance of phytoplankton were found to be the major factor controlling seasonal change of zooplankton in Hafik Lake.
