The welfare regime structure of a country has negative or positive impacts on women's participation in working life. If the welfare regime has a high ability of de-commodification and de-familialization, it means that it is also successful in keeping women in the labor market. In this study the main indicators determining the characteristics of the welfare regimes are the registered employment levels for women and the effects of social security system on the female labor supply. In this context Turkish welfare regime has been included in the Southern European welfare regimes. Quantitative research method has been used in this thesis which has two major objectives. The first is to identify the indicators of the registered employment in Turkey and to analyze them from a gender-based perspective. And, the second one is to demonstrate the impacts of generous social security system on women's labor supply in Turkey. As a result, it is concluded that women are more disadvantaged than men in terms of the factors positively affecting the registered employment. Although being educated is the most important one among those factors, it is seen that a significant proportion of the women with higher education has not taken part in the laborforce in Turkey. On the other hand, the survivors' pension and health insurance have resulted in decreasing the supply of female labor. And, all these are strictly related with the adoption of the traditional gender roles generated from the welfare regimes. A predictive analysis for the year 2030, shows that there will be no any significant change in the number of women registered employment in Turkey; and, therefore, seriously taken measures for enabling women to be employed in the primary sector will immediately be needed in the near future.
