The focus of this study, titled Concrete, is on criticism of the public. Following anexamination of the concepts public and power is an analysis of anti-society formations, practices and works of art within the society and art. The relation between public andpower is explored in our modern society where the public melts down in a consumptionculture, and power and the public become integrated. The concept power is studied onthe grounds of the views by Gramsci, Althusser and Foucault. This study is mainlycharacterised by the following publicments made by Foucault: `The source of poweritself is power.` and `Power is everywhere.` We maintain the idea that in our modernsociety which is driven by mechanisms that work hand in hand with oppression devicesand that generate consent, while the border between power and public fades away, theindividual becomes a subject of power owing to cultural hegemony. In the process tocreate his/her new subjective reality, the individual who opposes this subjection processneeds ideas not only against power but against the society as well. Our study, therefore, tries to track down anti-society ideas and acts, and to analyse the outstanding antisocietypractices, art movements, artists and works of art in history. Photographs with acriticism of society are examined, trying to find in the recent works of photography theindications of the critical approach that emerged following the avant-garde movements. In the last part of our study is a presentation consisting of photographs taken within theframe of anti-public ideas and photographs edited digitally. The purpose of theaforementioned works of art is to question and criticise the public, the idea of publicand social value judgements, and to hardly express an anti-public point of view. Keywords: anti-society, public, power, Michel Foucault, criticism of society inphotography.
