Smoking addiction is one of the greatest health problems of today's society. As a result of addiction, signs of deprivation emerges. Based on previous research, it has been found that individuals with low self-esteem and high impulsivity are more likely to use drugs, but no studies investigating the self-esteem and impulsivity levels of smokers have been found. The aim of this research is to compare the self-esteem and impulsivity levels of smokers and non-smokers with gender, age, marital status and education level. The sample of the research consists of 207 undergraduate and graduate students studying at various faculties of Üsküdar University. The study group consisted of 107 students who stated that they smoked more than 1 cigarette per day, while the control group consisted of 100 students who stated that they did not smoke in the past. The `Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale` to determine the self-esteem of the students participating in the study, the `Barratt Impulsivity Scale` and the personal information form were used to determine the impulsivity levels. All the participating individuals were informed and their approval were obtained. The data were analyzed with SPSS 21.00 program. When the findings were examined, a significant relationship was found between students' self-esteem and impulsivity. Individuals with low self-esteem have high levels of impulsivity. It has been found that the impulsivity increases when the self-esteem falls in the smokers. Self-esteem of students who did not smoke was found to be higher than students who smoked and smokers were found to be more impulsive than non-smokers. It was determined that those who participated in the study had a higher self-esteem among those who were between the ages of 19-21, female students, singles and those who continued their education at undergraduate level. It can be said that male students and students who continue their graduate level education are more impulsive. According to the results of the research, it is seen that non-smoking students have higher self-esteem than the smokers according to age, gender, marital status, education level and smokers are more impulsive according to their age, sex, marital status and education level. The findings of our research are largely in line with other studies in the literature. The findings of the research were discussed in the light of the literature, and suggestions were made.
