VII DEVELOPING WEB BASED TEXT - BASED CHAT SYSTEMS WITH JAVA (M. ScThesis) Hasan YILDIRIM MU?LA UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE of SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY 2003 ABSTRACT In this study, one of the methods providing communication on the internet, chat system, is analyzed and realized. This system has a very significant place in our lifes and its importance; purposes of use, the number of users are increasing day by day. The purpose of realizing this chat system is to form a text based system which will enable The University of Mugla, Chamber of Computer Center to provide online technical support on the web system. The far - reaching purpose of this system, on the other hand, is to establish a restricted or expanded chat system including individual authority both in the university and in the world; by improving the system better and adding extra functions. The System which is analyzed and improved must run and be used in almost all computer systems. That is why we chose web - based chat systems. For the same reasons for development of the web - chat systems. Java Applet Technology has been used for the platform freedom. The flexibility and user friendliness of the systems realized is a characteristic to be taken into consideration. The study has been completed in four sections. In the first section, an introduction have been made to our study and our purpose.. In the second section, the internet, chat systems and Java related concepts have been elaborated. In the third section, the steps of realizing chat systems, its structure, methods and techniques, theVIII conclusion of the study have been specified. In the result section, what deficient is for this study and what else we would do for final have been mentioned.
