ABSTRACTATAY, C. The Phrygian, Lydian and Persian Daily Use Wooden Artifacts in the Archaic and Classical Periods, MA, Mugla, 2012.This thesis analyses the daily use objects, which were produced by the Phrygian, Lydian and Persian civilizations that committed significant remarks in the Anatolian plateau. The study first focuses on the principal examples of these artifacts that reached us, by discussing their impact on different materials such as metal and stone by elaborating their masonry. The wooden daily use artifacts that were discovered mainly at the Big Tumulus (known as the Tumulus of Midas/ the Tumulus MM) as well as in other similar tumuli provided us with significant information for a better understanding of these objects and their masonry. Most of them were manufactured by everlastingly joined pin system. These wooden objects were mainly decorated by multicolored inlay work that was primarily defined by complex geometric motifs.Considering the Lydian wooden daily use objects, there is meager evidence. The Lydian tumuli that were equipped with stone klinai and some metal artifacts provide us with information about the wooden decoration. A majority of these tumuli were likely dated back to the second half of the sixth century B.C.Regarding the Persian culture, the evidence about the wooden daily use artifacts is scarce. Some reliefs such as the ones in the Persepolis Palace guide us about the possible appearance of these artifacts. The only original examples that reached us are the bronze fragments of arms and legs and the decorational fixtures from various materials. This meager evidence shows us that the Persian furnitures follow the ancient traces of the Near Eastern traditions. Keywords:Wooden, Artifacts, Phrygian, Lydian, Persian.
