Ravenna, located in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northeastern Italy, is a city that has been the capital of the West Roman Empire and the Ostrogoth Kingdom and the state capital of the Byzantine Empire, and is also home to eight world-famous unique Byzantine mosaics and UNESCO World Heritage listed buildings.Ravenna is, in fact, an object of the Roman Empire's continued presence in Italy. Religious structures in the city are generally constructed with three nave Byzantine basilica types, with a very plain outward appearance and an interior with a very luxurious mentality referring to the richness of the spiritual world. The interiors are heavily adorned with striking mosaic compositions. In addition to the topics of the Old and New Testament, the mosaic stained glass tesserae, which are given to the names located in the imperial administration, are dominated by golden yellow, green and indigo blue colors. The buildings constructed in Ravenna under the rule of the Ostrogoth Kingdom, especially during the period of Theodoric, along with preserving the traditional heritage, brought a new color to the architectural texture of the city. The arrival process of the Ostrogoths of northern origin to Ravenna, the connection of Theodoric and his family to Byzantium, and the city's ownership process, are part of the study. Without a doubt, Theodoric left a mark on the history of Ravenna and is still one of the most important names reflecting a shadow on the everyday life of the city. In addition to the Byzantine culture he possessed because of his upbringing in Constantinopolis, Theodoric attempted to adopt the Ostrogoth tradition as well, which he reflected both in architecture and administration. The strong ties with the capital, Constantinopolis, are also reflected in the architectural texture. The most important reason for the similarities in material and workmanship are the craftsmen who went to Ravenna from Constantinopolis. The structures of Late Roman and Early Middle Ages in Ravenna are thought to be the forerunners of Romanesque architectural examples.Key words: Ravenna, Iustinianus, Theodoric, Ostrogot, Theodora, Mosaic, San Vitale.
