The military regimes had a deterministic effect on the laws, principles and values that shape the structure, ideology and direction of the education system. In the course of the coups, the reorganization of educational curriculums and the modification of textbooks in terms of both format and content also points to the effect of military regimes on the education system. In addition, the legal arrangements and practices of these military regimes associated with institutions which officially carry out cultural policies, and unproductive activities of the military regimes such as criminalization of opposing cultural-art products, criminalizing the artist and the intellectuals in the periods of the military regimes had been instrumental in reshaping social and cultural functions. However, martial law practices and actions of the military coups, especially in the course of the coups of the March 12th and the September 12th, caused social traumas.
