Özet

The person taking happiness as a final purpose of the life needs a guide to reach that happiness. Acording to Farabi and Ibn Miskawaih, this guide can be a philosopher or prophet. That happiness can be reached only in a moral society under the polity of virtues. That's why, the main aim of our study is to tackle the moral and political philosophies of Farabi and Ibn Miskawaih in a comparative way. The fact that this issue has not been discussed comparatively in the context of aforenamed philosophers shows the importance of our study. Within the scope of our study, the influences of Greek thinkers especially Plato and Aristotle is included which breed above mentioned philosophers' efforts to establish conformity between Islamic thought and Greek thought. Since there is an anthropocentric understanding within the the moral and political philosophies of Farabi and Ibn Miskawaih, it is given place for human being's existence principles such as happiness, education and virtue. Therefore the relationship between politics and metaphysics, morality and politics, philosophy and religion, virtue and psychology are discussed. By demonstrating the importance of virtuous manager and education in achieving the happiness as a final purpose, the similarities between Farabi's virtuous ruler and Ibn Miskawaih's mature person having virtues are shown. Remarking the idea that morality will not change from birth can make education, politics, intelligence unnecessary, it is emphasized that morality can be altered by means of education, a virtuous guide and habits.
