The purpose of this research; analysis of the factors influencing the choice of individuals who have chosen psychology in their choice of profession; retrospective childhood trauma and parental attitudes and personality traits. It is also aimed to compare these results with those of those who choose a profession in a different field than the social sciences. The sample of the study consists of psychology students and the control group composed of engineering students. Participants were asked to complete the `Defense Style Questionnaire,(DSQ), International Personality Inventory Short Form (IPISV),` Parenting Style Inventory (PSI), and `Childhood Trauma Scale (CTS). In addition, the demographic information of the participants was obtained with a personal information form prepared by the researcher. The participants were presented with various options on how motivated while they were choosing their major and it was seen that 58% of the participants chose it because of their interest in the profession. The correlations of the subscales of each scale with the subscales of the other scales were found to be low or insignificant. Therefore, 4 different MANOVAs were used to compare the subscale scores between the groups. According to the findings; There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of IPISV and CTS subscale scores. It was found that there was a significant difference between the scores of the students studying in chemistry department and the immature defense subscale scores of the students studying in psychology department according to the DSQ subscales. The results showed that the scores obtained from the repressive-authoritarian parenting subscale of psychology students were significantly higher than those of the chemical engineering students. In addition, it was observed that the scores obtained from the students who studied in chemical engineering from the reassuring-democratic parenting subscale were significantly higher than those who were studying in psychology department.
