The concepts of change and transformation are essential in urban planning. Overthe course of the time, the transformation of urban places has become one of themain means of change. Analyzed from a sustainability perpective, it can be seenthat urban transformation are essentially in competition and sometimescontradicting with this concept. The aim of this research is to investigate the social, economic and enviromentallinks between sustainability and urban transformation in a spatial dimension. Thus, it will be seen that urban transformation has multiple different dimensions,it goals become differentiated and it has different features in terms ofmethodology. Another objective of this study is to reveal the role of the urbantransformation projects implemented in Isparta province, one of the mediumscalled province of The Republic of Turkey, in ensuring urban sustainability andto explain its dimensional effects. It is seen that the urban transformation worksimplemented in the city center of Isparta are not integrated in urban planningand the actions taken are not urban transformation but a land transformation. Therefore, projects implemented in Isparta city center, samples from the World,Turkey and medium scale cities as Isparta, the study area, were analyzed with aconceptual framework that was developed in line with sustainability andtransformation concepts and sustainable urban development principles. Theconceptualizations put forward with spatial analysis in this thesis is important inthat it will give clues as to how to evaluate these conceptualizations in large scalecities.
