The aim of this thesis is to look into the mode of production of documentary films, production conditions and to examine the effects of these conditions on the subjects of films and and their narrative structures in Turkey. Changes in the mode of production of documentary films influence the aesthetics, narrative structures and tendencies of documentary films. The main factors for the mode of film production are financial sources and production means. Finance is a big problem especially for filmmakers who produce films independent from any official mechanism. During 2000s by the development of internet and digital technologies, film production cost has relatively decreased and internet has become an alternative platform for documentary filmmakers in terms of finance, distribution and release conditions. The increase in interaction with different geographies thanks to these happenings, finance sources vary and such formations as national and international funds, co-productions, pitching forums, crowdfunding have come into being. ?Hybrid/mixed? modes of production in which all these new financial sources have been combined have appeared and documentary film production have risen. All these new tendencies in documentary film making have echoes in Turkish documentary cinema. Independent filmmaking have risen with an increase in subject diversity. Different sorts of narrative structures such as `observational?, `participatory? and `reflexive? have emerged in addition to classical narrative structures (`expository? modes). Although all these formations make filmmaking easier, finance and release have still been main issues of Turkish documantary cinema today. Key Words: Documantary film, mode of production, finance, digital techonology, narrative structure.
