The purpose of this study is to examine the students' wievs about lecturers' pedagogical competencies in a higher education institution, and to determine if these wievs differ in terms of student gender, college, attendance and grade. In order to gather data about students' wievs, a 20-item four factor scale was developed by the author. The items in the scale are Likert type statements with four point response format. While Croanbach Alfa was computed to assess the reliability, explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses were employed to determine the validity of the scale. The results of factor analyses yielded four factors. These are competencies of Democratic Attitude, Entering the Instruction, Instruction Process, and Assessment and Evaluation. The sample of the study is composed of 800 third and forth year students at Colleges of Education, Engineering, Theology, and Economics and Administrative Sciences. The data obtained were analysed with SPSS 17 program through the t-test, Mann Whitney U, ANOVA, Dunnet –C and Bonferroni test techniques. Results revealed that students think most of the lecturers are competent in Democratic Attitude, and Entering the Instruction; however, few of them found to be competent in Instruction Process, and Assessment and Evaluation. There are differences in Democratic Attitude and Assessment and Evaluation competencies between male and female students. When it comes to the other competencies no significant differences were observed in terms of gender. Participants` views in all four factors significantly differed among colleges. According the attendance variable, none of the factors were significantly differed. But all subscales were differed significantly in terms of student grade.viiFindings of the study were discussed in the light of the related literature and some suggestions were offered. Keywords: Higher education, lecturer, pedagogical competencies.
