Aim: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of obesogenic environment and social support for health behaviors on body mass index and body image of adolescents.Material and Method: The study designed as methodological and descriptive was conducted in the city center of Malatya between May 2013 and July 2014. Interviews were made with the Provincial Directorate for National Education, the schools located in the city center were divided into three regions according to their socioeconomic levels and three schools were determined among the regions by drawing of lots. The application was performed with a total of 270 students randomly selected from three schools. `Student Information Form`, OEAF, BIS, `Body Mass Index` and CASSS-HB were used to collect the data. Percentage distributions, correlation, chi-square test, ANOVA, and independent samples t test were used in the data analysis. Results: Results of the study revealed that CASSS-HB had a similar structure with original scale, its validity and reliability is high and it could be used in studies to be conducted in Turkey. According to the data acquired, 10.7% of adolescents in the study group were overweight and 3.0% were obese. There was a positive relationship between the obesogenic environment and body mass index and as the obesogenic features of the environments of adolescents increased, this body mass index increased, and the body image scores decreased. As the social support provided by their mothers, fathers, teachers, classmates and close friends to adolescents for their health behaviors increased, the body mass index decreased and they become more satisfied with their bodies. Conclusion: : Results of the study demonstrated that while obesogenic environment increased body mass index of adolescents and decreased their body satisfaction, social support given for health behaviors had a positive effect on body mass index and body perception. Keywords: Body Mass Index, Body Perception, Obesogenic Environment, Social Support.
