In this study, the process of theatricalicty's occurence is examined and style and function of dramaturgy as a theatrical tradition in the contemporary period is brought into question. In the first chapter the meta-reality as a common reference, theatre refers to, is a main focus of the research; and further theatrical sense generated as a result of this reality's change to a sign is stated as a central position considering dramatic basics. The outside existence of reality as a goal and instrument of dramatic reference has linked with communal life. Thus the principal factor of the change theatre has made over the centuries has been traced through several theatre-historical moments. It has been brought out that conversions, substantial changes and developments in societies find their reflection and images directly in theatre and theatrical process too.In the second chapter the comparison of dramatic art and post-dramatic tendencies is put into practice in accordance with Botho Strauss's play Besucher. 'The play within a play', 'the fool' and 'carnivalesque notion' as elementary instruments and tools of dramatic art has been observed in Besucher's dramaturgy by means of new meaning. Thus a distinct line has been drown between dramatic art and post-dramatic tendencies in both fictional and instrumental contexts.
