We have carried out this work in order to investigate the effects of V2O5 and MnO2 doping in Bi2O3 (BiO). After accomplishing the stability of body center cubic (bcc) type BO solid solutions by the solid state reactions (SSR), we have determined unit cell parameters for each doping ratio, the solubility limits, effect of the heat treatment temperatures, dopant type, and oxygen ion nonstociohometry. Moreover, the electrical conduction, phase transitions and some crystallographic properties of the formed ?-phase samples were investigated. According to the XRD and DTA/TG results, this bcc type solid solutions were stable up to about 720 oC? and the solubility limits were found at ~7 % mole V2O5 (at 750 oC) and ~ 10 % mole MnO2 (at 800 oC) in ?-BiO phase. Four probe d.c. electrical conduction measurements showed that both two systems had predominantly oxide ionic conduction. On the other hand, BiO-V2O5 system has the better electrical conduction and higher oxide ionic conductivity properties than (BiO)1-x(MnO2)x binary system. As the V2O5 addition increased, the ionic conduction increased up to 7 mol % V2O5 at which the highest conductivity was found to be around 10-2 (ohm.cm)-1 at ~ 700 oC. We determined that the produced V2O5 addition bcc solid electrolyte system had non-stoichiometric character for oxygen ion content. Higher doping rates of V2O5 introduce more defects into the structure and degree of disorder is increased. We presume that higher oxygen ionic conductivity of this ?-type BiO-V2O5 solid electrolyte, can lead to interesting material for some industrial applications.Keywords: Bi2O3, V2O5, MnO2, Bismuth Trioxide Polymorphs, Oxygen Ionic Electrical Conduction, Solid Electrolyte, Solid Oxide Fuell Cells (SOFC).

Bu çalışmada Bi2O3 içerisine V2O5 ve MnO2 katkılanması sonucu kristal yapıyı etkileyen sonuçlar araştırıldı. Katı hal reaksiyonlarıyla karalı yapıya sahip bcc tipi Bi2O3 elde edildi. Çalışmamız sonucu kararlı fazların doping miktarına bağlı birim hücre parametreleri, çözünebilme limitleri, sıcaklık artışnın etkileri, katkılanan maddenin tipi ve oksijen nanstokiyometrisi belirlendi. ?-fazına sahip örneklerin elektriksel iletkenlik, faz geçişleri ve bazı kristalografik özellikleri araştırıldı. XRD ve DTA/TG sonuçlarına dayanılarak bcc tipindeki katı çözeltilerin ~720oC `de karalı hale geçtiği ve ?-Bi2O3 fazı için çözünebilme limitinin ~ %7 mol V2O5 (750 oC) ve ~% 10 mol MnO2 (800 oC) olduğu sonucuna varıldı. Dört nokta d.c. iletkenlik sonuçları her iki sisteminde oksijen iyon iletkenliği özelliğine sahip olduğunu gösterdi. Bi2O3-V2O5 ikili sisteminin Bi2O3-MnO2 ikili sistemine nazaran daha yüksek oksijen iyonik iletkenliği gösterdiği sonucuna varıldı. V2O5 miktarındaki artışla iletkenlik değeri artmakta ve %7 mol V2O5 oranında maksimum 10-2 (ohm.cm)-1(~700oC) değerini aldığı gözlendi. Yüksek V2O5 katkı oranı yapıdaki kusur miktarını ve düzensizliği arttırdı. Böylece oksijen iyonu boşlukları oluşarak iletkenlik değeri de arttı. ? ?tipi, Bi2O3-V2O5 katı elektrolitinin yüksek oksijen iyonik iletkenliğinden dolayı birçok endüstriyel uygulamalarda kullanılabilineceği düşünülmektedir.Anahtar kelimeler; Bi2O3, MnO2, V2O5, Bizmut trioksit polimorfları, Oksijen iyonik iletkenliği, Katı elektrolitler, Katı yakıt hücreleri (SOFC).
