Maritime industry has been passing through a rough period since 2011 and it is a question of debate in the industry about when this period will take a turn fort he better. Especially in the container shipping industry, the constant raise of supply and weak demand have been holding companies in an economic crisis stat efor years now. This situation forces companies to look for cost reducing methods, even though this is not a sustainable solution. In container industry, one of these cost items is maintenance and repair costs of containers in service. The companies desire to use their containers with minimum cost for a maximum span of time available. Therefore reducing these costs, preventing them, applying the right repair method to the relevant damage type and having the trained and well informed individuals who practice these methods is essential fort he companies at the present time.In this study it is aimed to find the ratio of the circulating containers which need maintenance and repair, locations of containers' which causes most expense and how to prevent these costs to arise or ways to reduce them at least. In implementation section of this study, the ratio of these damages' occurance in Turkey will be examined by using a sample of a shipping company's data which is obtained by real observations and will be generated a sample group.A COST ANALYSİS OF MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS OF THE CONTAINERS CIRCULATING IN THE EAST MEDITERRANEAN REGION. By using this sample group, the estimated ratio of damaged containers in East Mediterranean Region will be found and examined. In conclusion section, the factors reducing the costs and relevant solutions will be examined and advices will be generated.
