The aim of this study is to examine the effect of algebraic reasoning applications on eliminating misconceptions in addition and subtraction in 2nd Grade Primary school. To reach this aim, the subproblems below have been identified.1. What are the misconceptions and mistakes of 2nd Grade Primary school students in addition in the pretest and post tense?2. What are the misconceptions and mistakes of 2nd Grade Primary school students in subtraction in the pretest and post tense?3. What is the effect of algebraic reasoning applications on eliminating misconceptions and mistakes? In the study, single-group pre-test and post-test poor experimental pattern, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In the study pretests were used to collect data. This test was created by the researcher with the help of a professional. Teaching plans including applications of algebraic reasoning was also planned and applied by the researcher in accordance with an expert's opinion. The process was carried through as, pretest interview -application- and final test interview, respectively. The data collected from the research was categorized in terms of questions and the frequencies were determined. At this stage content analysis was used. The effectiveness of this experimental study was shown by Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The result of the research shows that the algebraic reasoning applications are effective on eliminating misconceptions in addition and subtraction. Interviews with the students revealed 14 different misconceptions and mistakes. Most common misconception was oriented towards the concept of equality. According to the comparison of pre and final interviews the most effective mistake and misconception was expressing mathematical calculations in a written form. Materials used in the scope of algebraic reasoning applications, the activities performed and the good mood of the class affected the research in a positive way. Results show that some student's mistakes and misconceptions didn't improve. As a result of this, it is suggested to research the rate of elimination of misconceptions in accordance with the students' overall mathematical level.  It is suggested that applications, different materials and activities on algebraic reasoning to take their place in our curriculum. Keywords: Algebraic reasoning, addition, subtraction, misconception and mistake.
