Özet

This master's thesis explores the political and economic stages Chile has gone through since its sovereignty, as well as shedding light on the important milestones of each stage, with the hopes of drawing attention to the similarities between Turkey and Chile without giving way to comparisons.Since its sovereignty in 1818, Chile has gone through stages of liberalism, statism, socialism and neoliberalism. For this reason, the second part of the thesis, which follows the introduction, focuses on the religious and/or sociological groundwork for liberalism and neoliberalism for the sake of further clarification. In the third part, the economic and social occurrences during the historical development of Chile is explored under six sub-sections. Furthermore, any additional events of importance, if any, were discussed in their respective sections. In the fourth part, after analyzing each stage with their respective historical scope, neoliberalism, which had a considerable effect of the late periods of Chile, and its positive effects such as the high foreign direct investment flow and negative events such as high income inequality are discussed.During the writing process of this thesis, personal experiences as well as national and international papers, news articles and books were utilized.Key words: Chile, Econopolitics, Neoliberalism, Capitalism, Opposing Systems.
