This thesis aims to focus on one of the most important problematic of the history of sufism in post Ibn Arabian and in this scope, it approaches Abdülganî Nablusî's defence for the unity of being by considering the related debates about it. Since sufism has been a model of piety and also a science from the beginning, sufis have always been a party to the various social and intellectual debates. As the results of these debates, sufis were accused of bidatçılık, ilhad ve zendeka by the members of the normative religious sciences and sufis need to justificate themselves in order to clarify their understanding. For the time when sufis tried to justificate sufism against their critics the unity of being had been developed and by the contributions of Ibn Arabi and his student Sadeddin Konevi it became a systmetical structure. By the beginning of the unity of being's representing the dominant understanding in the sufism, the critiques to sufism had transformed to the critiques to the unity of being. In this sense, the opposition against sufism together with the accusations of ilhad, zendeka and bidat from the beginning brought along the spread of these accusations and adding new subjects to the debates with the unity of being. In the scope of this study, by focusing on a supporter and defender of the unity of being Abdülganî Nablusî, I will analyse the roots of the first debates and their fundemental points of the objections, and also the points' new dimensions by the emerge of the idea of the unity of being, and the polemical debates on these new dimensions between sufis and their opponents. The result obtained by this study clarifies that the source of the opposition against sufism in the early era and later emerged by the unity of being, according to Nablusî, resulted from the methodological difference between sufism and the other religious and intellectual groups. In this context, Nablusî tried to prove non-contradiction of sufism in general and the unity of being in spesific with the fundemental rules of religion and also prove the justification of sufism and the unity of being with regard to method and content.

Vahdet-i vücûdun tasavvuf içerisinde hâkim anlayışı temsil etmeye başladığı bu dönemden sonra tasavvufa yöneltilen eleştiriler artık vahdet-i vücûd anlayışı üzerinden sürdürülmüştür.
