Rebecca Lenkiewicz, one of the most important female playwrights of contemporary theatre, has been appreciated and awarded with various plays, screenplays and collaborative works. This study examines her playwriting and primarily deals with the way how the playwright reflects the female characters that are in a quest for their identities. And this is mainly realized through Her Naked Skin that attracted the attention of critics and through co-written movie Ida that was awarded with many prizes, notably Oscar. The troubles and challenges of female characters are also examined in her works such as The Night Season and Jane Wenham: The Witch of Walkern. Political works showing author's sensitivity to social and political issues of the recent past and the present are evaluated under a separate chapter as well. The Invisible, The Soldier's Tale and her unpublished play Wisconsin are among the plays that are examined in view of that fact. Lenkiewicz has included the bohemian life and love of art and artists in her plays by feeding the history. The two plays of the playwright The Painter and Shoreditch Madonna are examined from this respect.
