In order to build up a cultural basis, religion and ethnicity in the Middle East are considered separately. It is assessed that the Middle East has once more become a political focus and the development of this issue is examined historically. The investigation of the international hegemonic forces? interventions to the Middle East, the local resistances movements and the conflicts among local cultures led us to various conclusions regarding the region. Generally, this period is referred as the restructuring period. Although the thesis pursues a general and chronological narrative method, occupied regions are analyzed as examples. In the preparation of this thesis, a literature review of first and second hand sources are utilized. Besides, in order to attain a theoretical framework the concept of restructuring and the relationship between cultural and power are discussed in two separate parts. These interconnected concepts are analyzed separately and as a whole. The relationship between the state and power and the role of religion in the Middle Eastern history are discussed in line with their historical development. In order to determine the causes of cultural differences and similarites, religion and ethnicity in the Middle East are analyzed; henceforth, the basis of hegemonic relations, local resistance or cultural conflicts are studied.
