Performance analysis and optimization of single effect absorption refrigeration systems have been carried out based on an exergetic performance coefficient (EPC) which has been available in the technical literature. In this study single effect absorption refrigeration systems have been analyzed based on the EPC criterion by using exergy analysis method and finite time thermodynamics theoryFirst of all, an exergy analysis of two different single effect absorption refrigeration systems using H2O-LiBr and NH3-H2O as working fluid pairs based on exergetic performance coefficient (EPC) have been carried out. The analysis involves the effects of temperatures, mass fractions and some other values on the EPC criteria and exergy destructions for the different components of the absorption refrigeration system have been investigated. A computational model in EES (Engineering Equation Solver) program has been developed for the parametric investigation of the systems. Numerical results for the cycles are tabulated. After the exergy analysis, a performance analysis using finite time thermodynamic based on a new thermo-ecological optimization criterion named EPC has been carried out for both endoreversible and irreversible single effect absorption refrigeration systems. Exergetic performance coefficient has been selected as objective function and the optimal results have been derived analytically by the help of the model on the Mathematica. The effects of parameters to the performance have been investigated and the effects of irreversibility on the general and optimal performances are discussed. As a conclusion these two performance analysis based on two different methods are compared.
