Since past times, societies have tried to obtain and dominate knowledge.Mathematics knowledge is one of the most valuable information that is described in view of society. Efforts that students carry out reaching this knowledge cannot be ignored. Mathematics, which students face constantly throughout their education, creates various effects on thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Students need to overcome some difficulties in order to succeed in mathematics education. There are a number of factors that affect Mathematics performances. In this thesis Math myths, one of the factors that mostly influenced these performances, have been studied. A total of 11 math myths have been identified and the opinions of mathematics teachers and school counsellors regarding these myths are referred to.The aim of this study is to examine the myths of mathematics according to the opinions of mathematics teachers and school counsellors. Therefore, data were collected from participants through semi-structured interview formulas. The form consists of two parts. This form that is used by the researcher was created on two separate pages for school psychological counsellors and mathematics teachers. The research is carried out together with 10 mathematics teachers and 12 school psychological counsellors working in various schools in Kayseri province. The findings were interpreted with descriptive analysis method by conducting in-depth interviews about 22 participants.Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, which adversely affects our country and the world, some interviews were made face-to-face, while some others were held online in virtual environment. According to the results of this research, certain myths have been identified such as, `boys are more successful than girls, math requires logic, math is creative, students should know how to find the answer to a problem, only mathematicians can do fast operations in their minds, math requires a very good memory, math is the product of intensive work until the problem is solved, and mathematical intelligence is only in some of them.` On the other hand, the myths like `There is only one best way to solve a question, it is always important to fully answer a problem, and there is a mysterious way to accomplish mathematics` are not detected.

Geçmiş zamanlardan beri toplumlar bilgiyi elde etmek ve ona hâkim olmak için çalışmışlardır. Matematik bilgisi toplum nazarında nitelendirilen en kıymetli bilgilerdendir. Öğrencilerin bu bilgiye ulaşabilmesi için verdikleri mücadeleler göz ardı edilemez. Öğrencilerin eğitim hayatı boyunca sürekli yüz yüze geldikleri matematik, öğrencilerin düşünce, duygu ve davranışlarında çeşitli etkiler yaratmaktadır. Öğrencilerin matematik eğitiminde başarıya ulaşabilmeleri için bazı zorlukları aşmaları gerekmektedir. Matematik performansını etkileyen birtakım etmenler vardır. Bu tezde matematik performansını etkileyen unsurlardan biri olan matematik mitleri incelenmiştir. Toplamda 11 matematik miti tespit edilmiş ve bu mitlerle ilgili matematik öğretmenleri ve okul psikolojik danışmanlarının görüşlerine başvurulmuştur.Bu çalışmanın amacı matematik öğretmenleri ve okul psikolojik danışmanlarının görüşlerine göre matematik mitlerinin incelenmesidir. Bu yüzden katılımcılardan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu aracılığı ile veri toplanmıştır. Form iki bölümden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen bu form okul psikolojik danışmanları için ve matematik öğretmenleri için iki ayrı bölümde oluşturulmuştur. Araştırma Kayseri ilinde çeşitli okullarda görev yapan 10 matematik öğretmeni ve 12 okul psikolojik danışmanı ile yürütülmüştür. 22 katılımcı ile yürütülen araştırma derinlemesine görüşme yapılarak betimsel analiz yöntemiyle bulgular yorumlanmıştır.Ülkemizin ve dünyanın etkisi altında bulunduğu COVİD-19 salgını nedeniyle bazı görüşmeler yüz yüze bazı görüşmeler ise online olarak sanal ortamda gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre erkekler kızlardan daha başarılıdır, matematik mantık gerektirir, matematik yaratıcıdır öğrencilerin bir problemin cevabını nasıl bulması gerektiğini bilmelidir, sadece matematikçiler zihinlerinde hızlı işlemler yapabilir, matematik çok iyi bir hafıza gerektirir, matematik problem çözülene kadar yoğun çalışmanın ürünüdür ve matematiksel zeka sadece bazılarında vardır mitleri tespit edilmiştir. Bir soruyu çözebilmenin en iyi tek bir yolu vardır, bir problemin cevabını tam olarak cevaplamak her zaman önemlidir ve matematiği başarabilmenin gizemli bir yolu vardır mitleri tespit edilememiştir.
