The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of the computer-aided ELVES method on the development of students' ability to comprehend what they listen to and watch, and the application of this method in group. One part of the students included within the study group were exposed to the ELVES in a way that is not aided by a computer. The other participants were divided into two groups in order to implement the instructional methods individually and in group. Within the scope of this study, an observation carried out not only on the effects of individual and group work during the application of the computer-aided ELVES method but also on the changes in the level of students' emphatic tendency following the application.Conducted through the use of experimental model, the study was carried out on 245 fourth grade students which constituted two experimental groups and a comparative group. The students within the first and second experimental groups participated in the computer-aided instructional applications with the software ?Story House?, which had been devised via the program ?Macromedia Authorware 7.0?, for the presentation of three different stories. On the other hand, the students within the control group completed their lesson with the stories through the conventional ELVES method. The students' grade point averages for the Turkish Language lesson from the first term were used so as to determine the coworking groups prior to the application. The study concluded that the computer-aided ELVES method had an influence on the ability to comprehend what is listened to and watched and was useful especially for individual instruction. Furthermore, all the applications carried out throughout the study increased the level of students' emphatic tendency, and it was observed that, out of the three classifications of students- namely with low, intermediate and high level of emphatic tendency- the last group scored better in the posttest. In addition, it can be said that the level of students' emphatic tendency is in direct proportion to their academic achievement. The study findings are of importance in overcoming hardships and difficulties negatively affecting the ability to comprehend what is listened to and watched during language instruction; in integrating different methods with information technologies; and thus in producing better instructional designs. Keywords: Computer Assisted Teaching, Method Of ELVES, Listening Skills, Education Of Mother Language.
