 The Karbala incident has a special place in Islamic history. The martyrdom of Hazrat Hussein in Karbala on 10 Muharram 61680 by the army of Yazid bin Muvaiya had a great impact in the Islamic world. This event, which affected the social, cultural and political transformations in the Muslim social structure, led to the emergence of Shiism, the second sect of Islam. The Karbala incident has come to the fore in Islamic history with its political aspect. Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram, also has a very important feature for the Jafaris of Turkey. Ashura is not an ordinary day for Jafaris, it is important both in terms of belief and practice. Especially when the month of Muharram begins, mourning is held almost throughout the month, and on the day of Ashura, Hz. There is mourning for Hüseyin and his friends, and some rituals are performed. In this study, the social dimensions of rituals such as mourning, ashura and condolences, which are kept in the month of Muharram in Jafarism, will be analyzed.

 İslam tarihinde Kerbela olayının özel bir yeri vardır. Yezid bin Muvaiyenin ordusu tarafından, 10 Muharrem 61680 yılında Kerbelada Hz. Hüseyinin şehit edilişi İslam dünyasında büyük bir yankı uyandırmıştır. Müslüman toplum yapısında toplumsal, kültürel ve siyasal dönüşümlerin oluşmasına etki eden bu olay, İslamın ikinci fırkası olan Şiiliğin ortaya çıkmasına neden olmuştur. Kerbela olayı, daha çok İslam tarihinde siyasal yönüyle ön plana çıkmıştır. Muharrem ayının onuncu günü olan Aşura günü Türkiye Caferileri için de çok önemli bir özelliğe sahiptir. Aşura Caferiler için sıradan bir gün olmayıp hem itikadi hem de pratik açıdan önemlidir. Özellikle Muharrem ayı girdiğinde hemen hemen bütün ay boyunca matem tutulur, Aşura günü ise Hz. Hüseyin ve yarenleri için yas saklanılır, birtakım ritüeller yapılır. Bu çalışmada Caferilikte Muharrem ayında saklanan yas, aşura ve taziye gibi ritüellerin toplumsal boyutları analiz edilecektir.
