Özet:

Etymology, which is a combination of the ancient Greek words étümos truth and logos knowledge, meaning, is a branch of linguistics that examines from which language a word is taken and what sound, shape and meaning changes it has undergone over time. In order to reach the origin of a word in etymology research, it is necessary to pay attention to the compatibility in terms of sound and form, as well as the compatibility between the root and the word derived from it in terms of meaning. One of the most distinctive features of the Altaic languages is that they are suffixed languages. This shows that the construction and inflectional affixes in these languages have a very important place. Turkish draws attention as a typical Altaic language in terms of having these features. There are sometimes more than one different opinions on the origin of some words in Turkish. Among these views, the most appropriate one in terms of sound, form and meaning of the root and the word thought to derive from it should be accepted as the correct approach. In this study, information and suggestions are given about the origins of the words okşamak caress, iğrençiğrenmek disgustingdisgust, çörek donut, çekirge grasshopper, and the word turmakdurmak to stand up, about which there is no etymological opinion yet. In study, the verb to okşamak is oku-ş-a-, the verbs turmakdurmak are tu-r-, the words iğrençiğrenmek are igiğre-, the word çörek is çö-v-ü-r-ek çö-r-ek and çekirge is çeki-r-t-ge çeki-r-ge.

Çalışmada okşamak fiili oku-ş-a-, turmakdurmak fiilleri tu-r-, iğrençiğrenmek kelimeleri igiğre-, çörek kelimesi çö-v-ü-r-ek çö-r-ek çekirge ise çeki-r-t-ge çeki-r-ge şeklinde etimolojik açıklamalara tabi tutulmuştur.
