Özet:

Islamic scholars have developed different theories to reconcile between revelation knowledge of life ḥayāt, questioning suāl, punishment ʿadhāb, and blessing niʿma in the grave and our necessary sense knowledge of the dead. Both are characteristics of the famous and widespread understanding of life in the grave. Even though many theologians, especially Ashʿārī, reported that Muʿtazila denied life in the grave, Muʿtazilite thinkers rejected these claims and insisted that they accepted. This research hypothesizes that the main reason for predication the view of its denial to Muʿtazila in general is kalām scholars consideration that accepting the famous concept of life in the grave is impossible in terms of Muʿtazilite ontology. This research aims to reveal Muʿtazilas concept of life in the grave within the frame ontology using descriptive analysis and phenomenological methods. The study concludes that it is impossible to accept the famous concept of life by Muʿtazilite thinkers who postulate the following three ontological principles. First, there must exist life in a person for the existence of the perception of pain and pleasures and of meanings such as knowledge, power and will. Secondly, a person must have a specific structure al-bunya al-makhṣūṣ for the existence of life and the structure of the heart bunya al-qalb for the existence of knowledge and intellect. The third is that the obliged mukallaf consists of the body having a specific structure. Muʿtazilite thinkers have put forward an understanding of life in the grave, which is compatible with these ontological principles, by claiming that it will be experienced after the Doomsday.
