Özet:

The XVI century was a period in which the Ottoman navy made great progress in maritime compared to the beginning. The navy of the Principality of Karasi also played an essential role in this development process. The first shipyard built by Yıldırım Bayezid in Gallipoli contributed to this region becoming a maritime center for the Ottoman Empire. In the shipyard in Istanbul, where all the maritime affairs of the Ottoman Empire were managed, maritime activities reached the highest level during the Kanuni period, with the number of slipways increasing to two hundred. The only rival of the Ottomans in the maritime was the Venetians together with this development. It was a century in which significant names of Turkish maritime history such as Kemal Reis, Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha, and Piri Reis, and their victories were witnessed. Zâtî is one of the important Ottoman poets who was born in Karesi Province and carried the cultural heritage related to the sea and maritime of the place where he was born and grew up in his works. He lived during the reign of three sultans, namely Bayezid II, Yavuz Sultan Selim, and Suleiman the Magnificent. He witnessed Bayezid IIs silent preparations for the Venetians superiority at sea, Yavuzs Egyptian Expedition and the naval victories during the reign of Kanuni. It is aimed within the scope of this study to reveal to what extent the Ottoman naval dominance was reflected in Zâtîs poems, and how and in which literal and figurative meanings the terms of the sea and maritime were used in his poems.

II. Bayezidin denizde Venediklilerin üstünlüğünü görüp sessizce hazırlıklara başlayışına, Yavuzun Mısır Seferine ve Kanuni dönemindeki deniz zaferlerine tanıklık etmiştir. Bu çalışma kapsamında Zâtînin şiirlerine Osmanlı deniz hâkimiyetinin ne ölçüde yansıdığını; şiirlerinde denize ve denizciliğe ait terimlerin gerçek veya mecaz hangi anlamlarda, nasıl kullanıldığını ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır.
