Özet:

Although gender studies is a field that conducts research on male and female identities in many ways, it mostly focuses on feminism and womens studies. When recent academic studies are examined, it is seen that the cultural, historical, social and political aspects of men are discussed and in this case masculinity is criticized. Critical masculinity studies emphasize that it is as important to understand why men dominate as it is to understand why women are seen as the second sex. For this reason, masculinity studies focus on the invisible aspects of men and their unexpressed emotions. As in many disciplines, it has been observed that in post-2000 Turkish novels, men are reflected as weak and fragile rather than with the characteristics of strength, power and independence. Cemil, the protagonist of the novel Sinek Isırıklarının Müellifi by Barış Bıçakçı, one of the leading names of Contemporary Turkish Literature, stands out as a character who acts outside gender roles and does not comply with the teachings of the patriarchal system. This study focuses on the aspects in which Cemils masculine identity experienced fractures with himself, his environment and his wife Nazlı.
