Özet:

Although people struggle for their purposes, some consider their purposes as being able to discover the meaning of their lives. University students question the reasons for their behaviors they display and their purposes on the path to being an individual, and enter a quest in order to reach them. It is possible to see procrastination behavior by postponing a planned work to a later time period without a valid reason while chasing time in daily life. The origin of procrastination behavior starts with the humanity and is observed in small groups. Procrastination has entered our lives as a result of the individuals in groups postponing what they are supposed to do. The subject of the research is to determine whether the search of the university students for both the meaning and the purpose of life in the current period is related to the general procrastination behavior. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between discovering the meaning and purpose of life behavior and procrastination behavior in the students studying in university through certain demographic variables. The study was conducted with the participation of 178 students. The study group were 3rd and 4th year students studying in Guidance, Philosophy, Theology and Painting-Handcraft departments. In the analysis of the data, frequency tables, t test, ANOVA and correlation, Mann- Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were employed. It was found that while there was a positive moderate correlation between the meaning and the purpose of life and procrastination behavior, the meaning and purpose of life scale significantly differed from general procrastination behavior. In conclusion, it was determined that even if university students find their lives meaningful and purposeful, they may be inclined towards procrastination behavior. Therefore, it is recommended that individual and group studies should be conducted on procrastination behavior, and that an effort should be made in order to find a solution to the problem.
