Özet:

Deism emerged during the Enlightenment and took shape as a system of thought that accepted the existence of God but rejected traditional religious dogmas and authorities. Deism, which was particularly influential in Europe and America in the 17th and 18th centuries, was supported by the scientific developments and rationalist-centered schools of thought of the period, and paved the way for the critical questioning of classical religious teachings. In this context, deist thought positioned human reason as the center of solution for all problems and, by rejecting Gods influence on the world, emphasized a human-centered worldview. In this understanding, where God withdrew from worldly affairs, the space vacated by religious authority was filled with humanist and secular values. The connection between deism and secularism is clearly observed in the fact that both approaches limit religious authority and center human reason. While secularism distances religion from social life, deism accepts God as a creative being but rejects his active interventionist role. This situation accelerated the development of science and technology during the Enlightenment period, but caused the spiritual dimension of man to be ignored. In the modern period, scientific and technological advances provided individuals with a comfortable life while at the same time directing people to a pleasure-based and secular lifestyle. This study examines deism and secular life tendencies observed among todays youth. In the study, the relationship between deism and the secular understanding of life was particularly emphasized and the effects on young peoples belief in God and their worldview were discussed within the framework of this relationship. The study considers the increase in deist tendencies among young people as a theological problem and investigates the reasons for these tendencies stemming from the secular lifestyle. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the effects of the secular understanding of life that weaken young peoples belief in God or lead to deist tendencies and to offer suggestions for solving these problems. Although there are numerous independent studies on deism and secularism exist in the literature, it is observed that existing research often addresses the issue in a singular framework, focusing either on deism or on secularism. In this context, this study aims to overcome this deficiency and develop solutions to prevent deist tendencies in young people. The study is based on literature review and field research. First, the historical background of deism and secularism is examined, followed by the effects of these two phenomena on young people today. As a result of the research, it is recommended that religious education be restructured to prevent deist tendencies in young people, curricula be created that accurately discuss the relationship between secularism, deism and religion, and social activities be organized that instill a sense of responsibility in young people.
