Özet:

This study aims to investigate whether the foreign policy advocated by the Eurasianist political discourses that have emerged in Turkey since the 1990s has its roots in the Turkish foreign policy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürks era. The article focuses on Turkish foreign policy from 1919, when Mustafa Kemal began to lead the national liberation struggle, to 1938, when his rule ended with his death. In the study, in which qualitative research methods were used, the data obtained, including Mustafa Kemals words and practices, were analysed within the parameters of Eurasianist political discourses, taking into account the dominant mentality of the period in the historical context. A number of common parameters that dominate most of the Eurasianist political discourses in Turkey seem to overlap with the main features of Turkish foreign policy in the Mustafa Kemal era. Most Eurasianist political discourses in Turkey converge on common parameters such as anti-imperialism, full independence, international co-operation, attributing a leadership role to Turkey and anti-Westernism. The Turkish foreign policy of the Mustafa Kemal era was consistently in line with all these parameters, although the intensity of emphasis on certain parameters varied according to the conjuncture. Therefore, it can be said that Turkey has a sufficient historical heritage of experience for the foreign policy advocated by Eurasianist political discourses in Turkey.
