Özet:

One of the problems arising from the increase in global energy production and consumption in response to the ever-increasing energy demand in the world is the dependence of national economies on energy sectors. In this study, the effects of global oil and natural gas index prices on BIST100 are investigated. Monthly data for the period 2013:11-2023:11 are used in the analysis. According to the results of the analysis, the stationarity of the variables in the model is determined by the ADF unit root test. In order to determine the causality and direction of the cointegration values determined in the Johansen cointegration test applied according to the results of the unit root test and to avoid errors that may occur in the long term in the analysis, Granger Causality test was applied via VECM. The fact that the coefficients of the error correction process included in the model analysis process are negative and statistically significant indicates that the imbalances that may arise in the short term can be eliminated in the long term. According to the results of the Granger causality test conducted through the VECM model, two unidirectional causality relationships can be mentioned in the long run.
