Özet:

In recent years, data-based research on religiosity in the field of psychology of religion has increased in our country. It is seen that religiosity has been investigated in conjunction with many dependent and independent variables. The increase in studies on religiosity shows the necessity for conducting meta-analytic studies on this subject. However, in the local literature, there are no meta-analytic studies examining the relationship between religiosity and other demographic variables, except for a few meta-analytic studies that specifically address the gender variable. In this study, a meta-analysis research was conducted to understand the effect of marital status on religiosity. The fact that our study is the first meta-analysis research in Turkey that handles the relationship between marital status and religiosity increases the importance of the study. For this meta-analysis research, firstly the inclusion criteria together with the keywords were determined and the National Thesis Centre database was searched according to these criteria. A total of 71 theses, including 11 doctoral, 59 masters and 1 medical speciality thesis, were identified to meet the inclusion criteria and contain data suitable for meta-analysis. Since four of these theses contained two different sets of data, each set was included in the study as a separate study. Therefore, the number of studies included in the meta-analysis increased to 75. The research sample consisted of 34,653 individuals, 19,346 of whom were married 55.8 and 15,307 of whom were single 44.2. The study was based on general religiosity scores, and effect size Hedgess g, publication bias and heterogeneity test were calculated using the CMA v.4 Comprehensive Meta-Analysis V.4 program. According to the research findings, the meta-analysis brought out significant statistical values with a heterogeneous distribution in the general religiosity dimension p0.001. Significant differences were found in 41 of the total 75 studies included in the study. The analyses showed that there was a significant difference in favour of married people in the dimension of religiosity according to marital status. In the study, the average effect size of religiosity was confirmed to be 0.242 confidence interval between 0.141 and 0.343.
