Özet:

BBalıkesir People House was opened on 24 February 1933 and its nine branches were active between 1933 and 1951. Among these branches, the Representation Branch, with its various activities, helped Balıkesir Peoples House to become one of the leading peoples houses in Turkey. The branch used traditional arts such as theatre, puppetry, Karagöz and cinema. The branch staged open-air theatre productions in the People House Hall, schools and villages. The Branch also benefited from the Reading Theatre, also known as Radiophonic Representation, where live readings were performed on certain days of the week through loudspeakers placed in different parts of Balıkesir. The successful branch also gave several performances outside the city. Thus, with its activities, the Representation Branch of the Balıkesir Peoples House made significant contributions to the prominence of the Peoples House compared to others, to meeting the theatre needs of the city and becoming an important socio-cultural centre, to the adoption of Atatürks principles and reforms, to the socio-cultural change of society, to the change of the traditional perception of art and artists, especially regarding gender, and to the training of many leading artists in Turkish theatre and cinema.
