Özet:

The Turkish History Research Society was founded in 1931 with the aim of strengthening Atatürks revolutions through historical awareness. Atatürk, who asked the Society to research the roots of Turkish History and rewrite it with contemporary methods, has supported the Society since the day it was founded and has always given directives to shed light on all the scientists involved. The Society, which set out with this goal, was renamed the Turkish Historical Society in 1935; it has defended the view that the history of the Turkish nation could not be limited to the Ottoman History alone, that the history of the Turks was much older, and that it was a source of inspiration for all civilizations. It has also revealed that it should be accepted that the Turks are not of the yellow race, but of the white race. In order to research and conduct on-site examination of these issues, a Turkish History Committee was formed, one of the experts in the field, within the body of the Turkish Historical Society. For this purpose, the Turkish History Committee has made many study trips to historical places both abroad and in the country. The places seen in the study trips and the points that need to be done scientifically were reported to Atatürk. The delegation went on study trips to various regions of Thrace and Anatolia in order to reveal the history of Anatolian culture and its evidences connecting it to Central Asia with documents. One of these trips was organized between 12-19 September 1935 to Anafartalar, Troy and the Aegean Regions. The trip was attended by 16 people, mostly members of the Institution and experts in the fields of history and archaeology. The members of the delegation visited the archaeological remains bearing the traces of very important civilizations in Çanakkale and İzmir for seven days and gave their opinions on what can be done to protect them. The events of the trip were kept daily by Uluğ İğdemir, the first secretary of the Turkish Historical Society at the time. In this study, the experiences and results of the research trip made to the Marmara and Aegean basins were presented in the light of Uluğ İğdemirs daily travel notes and national and local newspapers of the period.
