Özet:

Urban consciousness is the identification of individuals with the city, the feeling of belonging to the city, the sense of responsibility towards the city, and the active participation in decisions about the city. Participation is an important element of urban consciousness. For participation to take place; the citizen should be able to use the urban space; take advantage of the opportunities offered by the city; know the city; notice the changes in the city, and be in the urban life. Active participation of the citizens is possible with the awareness of urbanity. While the existence of individuals with high urban awareness contributes to the realization of active participation, participation makes a significant contribution to peoples ownership of the cities they live in, the sustainability of cities, and the formationdevelopment of urban consciousness. This study was carried out to measure the difference and the relationship between the participation behaviors in the urban space and the urban consciousness of individuals aged 18 and over living in the Pamukkale and Merkezefendi Districts of Denizli Province. Within the scope of field research, 1100 surveys were conducted. One-way analysis of variance and post hoc tests were used in the analysis of the data. According to the research results, it has been revealed that there is a significant difference between participation and urban consciousness and its components.
