Özet:

The aim of this study is to adapt the Social Competence Scale for Children, originally developed by Nuñez 2011 for children aged 3-8, into Turkish for children aged 4-6, and to conduct validity and reliability analyses. In the first stage of the research, the linguistic validity of the scale was emphasized. Expert opinions were sought, and linguistic equivalence studies were conducted. The analyses revealed that the linguistic validity coefficient r .78; p .05 was at an acceptable level. Subsequently, the construct validity of the scale was examined. Confirmatory factor analysis CFA was conducted, and the results indicated that the three-factor structure of the scale was appropriate and valid for children aged 4-6. In the criterion validity analysis, it was determined that the scale could distinguish between the top and bottom 27 of the groups, and the discriminative power of the items was high. Additionally, the convergent validity test revealed a positive and significant relationship r .583, p.000 between the SCSC and a similar scale. In terms of reliability analysis, the Cronbachs Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as .82, indicating high internal consistency and reliability. In conclusion, the findings demonstrate that the Social Competence Scale for Children is a valid and reliable tool for assessing the social competence of Turkish children aged 4-6.
