Özet:

This study investigates the potential of social media, which is claimed to weaken social bonds and foster individualization, to generate solidarity in contemporary societies. In previous studies, digital solidarity has been used to refer to the ability to organize mobilization rapidly and massively over the internet in times of crisis, such as disasters and political protests. This study, on the other hand, sheds light on a dimension of digital solidarity that has not been sufficiently emphasized before, to generate bonds, emotions and belongings based on shared taste, in the ordinary flow of social life, without any crisis. Drawing on the theory of relational sociology developed by Pierre Bourdieu, the study argues that there is a homology between social space and digital space and points to the social roots of digital solidarity that transcend the borders of the internet. In Turkey, these roots are highly related to the culture wars that have divided social space into secular and conservative camps since Ottoman reformism. The study examines the strong links of culture wars with digital solidarity through an analysis of the Teke Tek Bilims YouTube program. It argues that shared tastes construct digital solidarity through strategies of glorification, gratitude, and stigmatizationcriticism of the opposed culture.
