Özet:

The cult of the mother goddess emerged alongside the matriarchal social order during prehistoric times. It celebrated the mysterious and divine qualities of women that cannot be fully understood. This perception influenced artistic representations, where the sacred aspects of female reproductive organs were emphasized. Artworks depicted women with large breasts, hips, and a sagging belly, known as steatopic figures like Cybele or Venus. This perception transcended historical periods, including Göbekli Tepe and continued in Turkish culture and art. These female figures were present both before and during the Islamic period, despite the religions emphasis on modesty and privacy. Interestingly, women from the upper class, except for sacred individuals, tended to dress more conservatively than their servants or concubines. Full body coverage, including the face, was typically reserved for noble ladies. In the context of our topic, we will examine rock and wall paintings, sculptures, and the portrayal of womens bodies on coins in Turkish art.
