Özet:

Water has been an important part of life, both vitally and intellectually, since human existence. In addition to having vital factors such as drinking water, nutritional needs, irrigation of agricultural areas and cleaning, oceans, seas, rivers, lakes and underground water resources, which have symbolic meanings such as eternity, continuity and power, have been included in many different rituals in ancient belief systems. Immersing in water or coming into contact with water during rituals means returning to the essence, rebirth, birth and purification. Water, which is especially necessary for the purification process that forms the beginning of every ritual, is also decisive in the positioning of sacred areas. In addition, the belief that water contains divine power and the deification of water resources have caused water to become one of the tools that people use to communicate with God and get news about the future. Thus, it can be seen that first the water sources in caves or underground rock cavities, and then the wells in monumental temples, were among the areas where divination took place. According to ancient sources, inscriptions, coins or various archaeological findings, Smintheion, Klaros, Didyma, Sura, Limyra, Kyaneai and Labraunda can be counted among the oracle centers in Anatolia that are understood to give prophecy through water or by observing the fish in the water.
