Özet:

While fires and drought continue in the west and south of Turkey, a country of potential disasters, floods, avalanches and storms may occur in the northern and eastern regions at the same time. In this respect, raising awareness of disasters through education is essential for disaster preparedness. The aim of this study is to identify the dangers of disasters in the living spaces of university students, to determine the possible causes of these hazards and to determine their suggestions for eliminating these hazards. For the purpose of the study, a hazard hunting activity was conducted with 15 participants. The participants of the research, which was designed according to the case study method on the basis of qualitative research, consisted of 15 students who took the disasters and disaster management course selected by criterion sampling method in the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. The data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analyzed by content analysis. As a result of the study, university students identified many hazards and threats related to earthquakes, floods, fires, landslides and storms in their living spaces such as homes and dormitories. The reasons for the dangers they have identified; peoples lack of awareness of disasters, ignorance and inexperience about disasters, irresponsibility of people, lack of control and disbelief in the reality of disasters. The suggestions of the participants for the dangers they identified are fixing non-structural structures, having early warning devices, creating a disaster culture in the society by making hazard hunting mandatory, taking precautions by intervening in dangers, spreading the volunteer system to the society, providing disaster trainings, disseminating drills through disaster scenarios and conducting inspections. In the research; It has been suggested that the power of education should be used on the way to Disaster-Ready Turkey, the dangers should be identified and prepared for disasters without lose time, disaster awareness should be created in individuals and disaster culture should be created in the society.

Katılımcıların tespit ettikleri tehlikelere yönelik önerileri ise yapısal olmayan yapıların sabitlenmesi, erken uyarı cihazların bulundurulması, tehlike avının zorunlu hale getirilerek toplumda afet kültürü oluşturulması, tehlikelere müdahele edilerek tedbirler alınması, gönüllülük sisteminin topluma yayılması, afet eğitimlerinin verilmesi, afet senaryoları aracılığıyla tatbikatların yaygınlaştırılması ve denetimlerin yapılması yönündedir. Araştırmada; Afete Hazır Türkiye yolunda eğitimin gücünden yararlanılması, tehlikelerin belirlenip zaman kaybetmeden afetlere karşı hazırlıklı olunması, bireylerde afet bilinci toplumda ise afet kültürü oluşturulması gerektiği önerilmiştir.
